I tried searching, but didn't find an answer, I hope this is OK to put my question here.

I have a member who checked a 3-4 private messages and hit the button to delete them and it deleted ALL of her messages in her in box.  Is there any way to recover them?  And is there any known glitch that I need to fix so this doesn't happen again to anyone?

On the inbox page there are two buttons 'Delete All' and 'Delete Selected'

It sounds like your use clicked the incorrect button.

Both buttons display a confirmation to the user, I guess they still went ahead anyway.

Once this is done there is no way to recover the deleted Private Messages.

I guess also as you are posting in the 7.x support forum you are using version 7, for security reasons you should upgrade to version 8 ASAP

Thanks.

I am upgraded to 8, I didn't look at the forum I posted  in, just found a similar question.

I told her I thought she pushed the wrong button, but she swears she didn't.  I looked because with our older version it was EASY to dump all the messages.  This one isn't so easy.  The Delete Selected is way bigger then the Delete All.

I'll let her know there's no recovery.  I told her I didn't think so, but she had some very old messages in there from people not on our board anymore and was very upset, so I told her I would try.

Thanks for getting back to me about it.

If she did click the delete selected there is no way that all her messages would have been deleted, she must have clicked the wrong button.

You should also let her know that as long as she as a valid email address in her profile that there is an 'email this message to myself' link on the Private Message viewing page, if she uses this at least she would have a backup in her own mail account.

It's also lucky she doesn't have an account on here as I periodically delete all PM's older than 2 months from the admin area to maintain higher performance.
